Subsurface Utility Engineering
ASCE 38 utility investigation and mapping that lets engineers design around reality instead of assumptions.
Know what's below before you dig
SUE is the engineering discipline of managing utility risk on complex projects. Following the ASCE 38 standard, we combine records research, surface geophysics, and (through partners) vacuum-excavation test holes to deliver utility data at defined quality levels A through D.
For DOT work, municipal infrastructure, and large commercial developments, SUE data reduces redesigns, change orders, and utility relocation surprises, the costs that kill project budgets. It is also how our own directional drilling projects de-risk congested corridors before the rig arrives.
What's included
- Quality Level D, records research and compilation
- Quality Level C, surface feature correlation
- Quality Level B, geophysical designation (EM + GPR)
- Quality Level A coordination, test-hole verification
- Utility conflict matrices and risk analysis
- CAD/GIS deliverables for design teams
Systematic. Documented. Every time.
Project consultation
We review your scope, site plans, and available utility records to understand exactly what your project needs.
One-call coordination
We coordinate with Florida 811 (Sunshine State One Call) so public utility owners mark their lines and share records.
Field locating
Our technicians deploy electromagnetic locators and GPR on site to identify, verify, and mark every utility.
Documentation & reporting
You receive maps, depth readings, and professional reports meeting ASCE 38 standards.
Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) FAQ
What are ASCE 38 quality levels?
A standardized scale of utility data confidence: QL-D (records only), QL-C (records + surface features), QL-B (geophysical designation of horizontal position), and QL-A (precise horizontal and vertical position from physical exposure).
Who uses SUE deliverables?
Civil engineers, DOT project teams, municipal public works, and developers who need reliable utility data during design, not surprises during construction.
Do you provide CAD files?
Yes. Deliverables include marked-up plans and CAD/GIS files with designated utilities, quality levels, and depth data where available.
